Goal Check Up!

O Dark Thirty Strength Training

Remember those SMART goals I wrote about a few weeks ago in Women's Running Magazine? Now is the time to check our progress on them. If you haven’t mapped out a plan for achieving the goals, this is a perfect time to do so.
Getting the hang of it

Some of my own personal goals for the year are to:
  • Be able to do ONE unassisted pull-up by the end of August. Earlier would be better.
  • Run a ten-minute mile by the end of May. I haven’t been able to run a 10-minute mile ever. In fact, my fastest mile was 10:34, and that was while playing varsity sports in high school.
  • Plank for over a minute. Planks—nuff said.
  • Complete a Tough Mudder event in early May and not look like a bumbling fool—well actually I don’t really mind looking crazy. I just want to finish!
  • Run a 5:30 or better for the NYC Marathon this November.

  1. Hey girl, just found your blog. You rock. The JJ100k was my first 100k too. Keep it up, and when you're my age (51) you'll find that much of your competition starts dropping away and it won't matter how fast you are. Cheers!

  2. You are awesome. I've been losing my edge and reading your blog will, I hope, help. I saw you on the news. Inspirational.

  3. I just found your blog and need to tell you how much I love you and am inspired by you! I have always said that I don't need to be "skinny" or "thin" if only I could run or lift or play whenever I wanted. I'm 5'7" and 220+lbs. Thank you for putting yourself out there to show women and girls that the number on the scale doesn't matter. Thank you!!

  4. I love the idea of doing SMART goals related to fitness. I have been a mentor teacher, and recently helped a second year teacher work on her SMART goals for our state's resident educator program. I never thought of using them for something actually useful!
